Andhra Nellore Fish Curry

(Chapala Pulusu)

Ingredient's
  • Mustard seeds-1tsp

  • Cumin seeds-1tsp

  • Curry leave's-1 stem

  • Dry red chillis -2

  • Coriander for (garnish)-handful

  • Onion-1 (make it into a paste)

  • Olive oil or sunflower oil -4 to 5 tbsp

  • Garam masala-1tsp

  • Garlic & ginger paste-2tsp

  • Green chilli's-4(make it into a paste)

  • Chilli powder-1tsp

  • Turmeric powder-half a tsp

  • Salt-1tsp

  • Tamarind paste-half a cup

  • Black pepper-1tsp

  • Jaggery-2 tbsp

  • Water-2tbsp

  • Plum tomato's-6(make it into paste)

  • Tilapia ,cod or monkfish-4 (medium Piece's)

Fish Note;
Method;
  •  Wash the fish well with a pinch of turmeric powder and water before marinating and keep it side.

  • Marinate the fish pieces with lime juice,a pinch of turmeric powder,pinch of salt,

  • keep it on side until gravy is ready........

  1. Chop the onions and make it into a smooth paste keep it on side .Now chop the tomatoes and make it into smooth paste and keep it on the side .Next chop the green chilli and make it into the paste. 

  2. Heat the medium sized sauce pan with olive oil .

  3. Once the oil is ready and keep in on the medium heat.

  4. Now add mustard,cumin,curry leaves,let it fry and then onion paste black pepper,green chilli paste and mix it well for 10 minutes .untill onion raw smell should go.

  5. Once the onions,masala ready .

  6. Add  one spoon garlic & ginger paste,chilli powder,turmeric powder,salt,tomatoe paste and let it cook for 10 mintues with the pan lid on.

  7. Now its time to add tangy sweet tamarind paste mix well for 15 minutes with low heat.

  8. After 15 minutes add garam masala, jaggery if needed 2tsp of water.

  9. Let it all cook for 25 minutes with half lid open.

  10. Cook until the sauce comes together. 

  11. Now add fish slowly into the sauce  .

  12. Keeping the heat low.

  13. Mix gently once .

  14. Cook for 10 to 15 minutes until fish is fully cooked with the lid on .

  15. After 10 mintues keep the  lid half way open.

  16. After 15 minutes switch off the heat.

  17. Your homemade delicious andhra fish curry is ready taste with your lovely family or friends.

  18. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves.

  19. Enjoy homemade hot fish curry with plain rice or roti's...........
